Description: Camp Blue Hawk is a 5-day residential summer camp program out of the Harold Hamm Diabetes Center at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center. Research shows that diabetes camps are critical to help youth learn how to manage this condition and prevent future health complications. Our vision for camp is a fun, medically safe environment to achieve the following:
1. Reduce the emotional burnout or distress of living with type 1 diabetes
2. Improve diabetes related quality of life; and
3. improve campers’ ability to independently complete diabetes related elf-care tasks
Compensation: Camp Staff can choose to be compensated with a $450 stipend, or with rotation credit, IPPE hours, or required volunteer hours if eligible (100 hours).
We are accepting applications to fill 17 Counselor positions. Camp counselors get extensive experience working with patients with a chronic illness, get hands on experience helping patients manage type 1 diabetes, and receive real-time training from diabetes care providers, including board-certified pediatric endocrinologists, certified diabetes educators, pharmacists, and registered dietitians.
