Volunteer Opportunities

OUHSC Health and Safety Blitz is a historic event. It is an opportunity to provide care, point of care testing, and education in a variety of areas that serve patients/clients that do not have access to these services. This upcoming Fall semester, our vision is to have booths hosted by various colleges across campus providing services and activities...

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What counts as volunteer hours?

OU values and encourages others to give back to the community. Acts of service done freely outside of academic requirements or work counts towards the OU Standard Award.

We do offer a few OU Standard Volunteer Days throughout the semester that are available to you. Otherwise, feel free to give back in whatever way you wish! (health clinics - as long as it’s not a class requirement, food bank, animal shelter, etc.)

Can I add my hours from previous years?

Yes, OUHSC students can retroactively log hours that they have completed throughout their time enrolled at OUHSC.

Do summer camps/mission trips count?

Yes! Please only count the hours you were actively volunteering.

Do summers and break count?

Yes! The academic year for the OU Standard Award starts June 1.

When does the year start for the OUHSC Standard logging?

The OUHSC Standard Award starts each new volunteer year on June 1.

If I used a previous logging system for OUHSC Standard Award, do I need to re-enter my hours?

No. Returning students that have logged their hours through self-service will NOT have to re-enter hours. HSC Student Affairs staff will combine the data to determine awards.

How many hours do I need to qualify for the OUHSC Standard Award?

Students completing the designated number of volunteer hours will be honored with a graduation cord as a symbol of the impact they have made on the community.

  • A green cord will be awarded for completing a total of 200 volunteer hours before graduation or 50 hours within one year.
  • A blue cord will be awarded for completing a total of 300 volunteer hours before graduation or 75 hours within one year.
