Bridging the Gap: Researchers and those facing dementia
The goal of this workshop series is to give an opportunity for students/junior professionals in research and healthcare to build their communication skills to interact with the dementia patient and caretaker population. Specifically, we aim to open and nurture a line of communication with affected populations in an effort to overcome social/emotional/economic, etc. barriers that may exist between these groups and that may hinder productive relationships between researchers and patients.
Our second speaker is Dr. Diana Sturdevent, Assistant Professor of Research, College of Nursing. She will be discussing "Best practice strategies for communicating with people living with dementia". There will also be a Q&A session with the dementia caretaker volunteers to provide attendees with the opportunity to enrich their understanding and perspective of what it means to face dementia; a condition that affects more than just the diagnosed individual.
Please see the attached flyer to register for the event (registration is not required to attend). This event is open to all OU/OMRF personnel.
