Pride Week | Transgender & Gender Expansive Care – Khye Tyson – Kuluntu Reproductive Justice Center

Tuesday, June 21, 2022 @ 5:00 PM

Zoom

How do gender norms affect the ways we do our work, and what does that have to do with transgender and gender expansive people? In this workshop, participants will gain insights into how to best work with intersectional LGBTQI families in their medical (or birth work) practice. Participants will gain the context of the size, needs, concerns, and lived realities of today’s (and tomorrow’s) LGBTQI population from a birth worker and educator who is also a member of the LGBTQI community. We will examine how gender as a system can be harmful for all of us and examine the ways that harmful gender norms show up in our language, practice, and communication. You will walk away with the ability to integrate LGBTQI stories and narratives into and challenge unnecessarily gendered aspects of your birth work practice and revise as necessary.
