The Sooner Standard: Summer Volunteer Days

READOKC Reading Room in Penn Square | Weekends | Now - July 16th

Join us for the Sooner Standard: Volunteer Days this summer! This is a great opportunity for students, staff and faculty to collaborate and give back to the community!

The Sooner Standard is collaborating with the ReadOKC Reading Room in Penn Square Mall this summer. We are in search for volunteers to hold 3-4 hour shifts on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until July 16th! Please email for more information and available shifts!

ReadOKC is an initiative of The Oklahoma City Public Schools Compact, to promote the love of reading for the students of OKCPS and in our community. The summer reading challenge, Get in the Game, gives kids a goal of reading 1200 minutes (20 minutes per day) during the summer break. Volunteering will include having kids sign in, helping them pick out books, reading with them and encouraging them to log reading hours this summer. The reading room is open to all kids and families – it’s set-up like a library with books and reading nooks. Friends and family are also invited to help.

Adopt-A-Patient: Summer Smiles | Now – Friday, July 14

Sign up: Online Drop off: DLB Student Union, Suite 300

For the 2017 Summer Season, The Sooner Standard and HSC Student Affairs has teamed up with both the Children’s Hospital and the OU Medical Center. Our goal is to help the patients feel more secure and “at home” in the hospital. We are gathering new pajamas, blankets, toys and other simple comforts that can help. Many families come to the hospital in emergency situations, with little time to pack items. Additionally, over 70% of families served are considered “low-income” and could use a helping hand.

* We appreciate your support, and please know that all donated items or funds to The Children's Hospital Volunteers are tax deductible, as it is a registered 501(c) (3) charity.

Step 1: Fill out an Adopt-A-Patient online form: Click here to adopt-a-patient!

Step 2: will email you information about your assigned patient or patients in need.

Step 3: Purchase item(s) indicated for your patient and return them UNWRAPPED to HSC Student Affairs, DLB UNION SUITE 300, no later than Friday, July 14 at 4 PM.
