Make an impact at OU Health Sciences

Leadership & Volunteerism Programs provide students with opportunities to develop essential leadership skills, engage in meaningful community service, and cultivate a lifelong commitment to service and social responsibility.

Adopt-A-Patient

Adopt-A-Patient is a heartwarming initiative led by Student Affairs in partnership with the OU Health Children’s Hospital and OU Medical Center. The program aims to bring comfort and joy to hospitalized patients, especially during the holiday season, by encouraging students and community members to "adopt" patients and provide thoughtful gifts and support. Through campaigns like Winter Wishes, the program has seen record-breaking participation, with hundreds of patients adopted each year. This effort fosters community engagement and spreads “Sooner Magic” to those facing challenging times in the hospital.

Big Event

The Big Event is the largest student-led day of service, uniting students from all seven academic health colleges to give back to the Oklahoma City community. Held each fall, the event emphasizes gratitude and community connection through hands-on service projects at local organizations. Volunteers engage in health-related tasks such as screenings, education, and outreach, applying their skills to make a meaningful impact.

Fall Food Drive

The Fall Food Drive is an annual campus-wide initiative that mobilizes students, faculty, and staff to combat food insecurity in Oklahoma. Organized by Student Affairs, the drive collects non-perishable food items and monetary donations to benefit the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. Each fall, donation boxes are placed across campus in a University commitment to community service and collective action for a stronger, healthier Oklahoma.
